This conceptual design project imagines a line of cocktail mixers inspired by Marie Laveau, the legendary Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. It’s a brand that stirs up mystique, ritual, and rhythm inviting drinkers into a world where every pour feels like casting a spell. The mixers resemble potions, both in look and feel, encouraging people to become their own mixologists conjuring personalized cocktails at home with a sense of magic.
Research & Inspiration
The brand name "Black Hair Force" inspired a visual identity that reflects strength and empowerment, transcending hair products. Recognizing the political and cultural significance of afro-textured hair, the design draws from African American music icons like Jimi Hendrix to Curtis Mayfield, whose impact on civil rights became a symbol of empowerment. The bold, powerful design is rooted in funk, soul, and psychedelic music, with colors and elements that reflect nature, vegan values, and the cruelty-free ethos of the brand.

Marie Laveau becomes more than a namesake—she’s the muse. The branding explores themes of voodoo symbolism, Creole heritage, and herbal alchemy, all wrapped in a sultry, nocturnal aesthetic.
Moodboard & Visual Influences
The moodboard for Marie Laveau Cocktail Mixers was a love letter to New Orleans: its vibrant spirit, mystical undertones, and rich visual culture. I pulled inspiration from vintage apothecary labels, magical potions, and the theatrical energy of Mardi Gras. Instead of going the expected dark and moody route, I leaned into an unexpected palette of lilac, soft orange, and pale green. These hues balance the magical with the modern soft, enchanting, and a little bit playful. The pastel tones evoke feelings of ritual and revelry, while also nodding to fresh ingredients like herbs, citrus, and botanicals. Altogether, the moodboard became a blend of folk magic, celebration, and alchemical beauty, setting the tone for a brand that feels both otherworldly and refreshingly new.
